Year 4 had a fantastic time at South Bank Centre School of Rock event that took place just before the half term break. The event was organised as part of the South Bank’s Imagine Children’s Festival. It had the aim of seeking out undiscovered talent and giving young performers a chance to shine.
The Michael Faraday pupils were able to take part in a morning workshop at the South Bank. We received professional guidance about how to perform in front of an audience and techniques to help with our playing.
The afternoon was then all about ROCKING!
A ten minute slot was given for each school to perform on the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer stage. Support came from Lorraine, our ukulele teacher from Learn to Uke. Pauline also contributed her musical knowledge with the specially written lyrics.
Year 4 took to the stage under the name of Ukes of Rock. As the title suggests, our performance was very much about a positive attitude and having some fun! Year 4 didn’t disappoint.
We opened up our ten minute slot with an accepella version of We Will Rock With, slightly modified with a special message for the South Bank audience. Rousing renditions of Rock Around the Clock and Eye of the Tiger were then played on the ukuleles.
We received a fantastic response from the both the audience and judges. The overall standard from all schools was incredibly high. The Michael Faraday pupils enjoyed watching the other performers in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
We would like to thank the South Bank Centre Imagine Festival for making us feel most welcome. Plus also it was great to see so many Faraday friendly faces in the crowd coming out to support.
