The Year 1 children have been building upon their recent geography work to include an understanding of the United Kingdom and the four countries that this represents. We have already looked in great detail at London and our own communities. Our geography learning is now stretching further afield to include Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Each class member has labelled a map of the UK. As well as identifying the country locations, national flags have also been included. The children have looked at the different seas that can be found around the UK.
Future sessions will see each of the four countries being explored in more detail. We will be introducing the Year 1 children to some of the music and dances associated with the countries. Some colourful posters explaining what we can find in each country will also be created.
You can take a short guided tour of the UK with a group of Year 1 pupils in the video above.
