The Year 2 children have been using their imagination to create a very thoughtful piece of artwork. The starting point for these paintings was a small picture. A number of different images were used for this exercise. Examples included a portrait of a lady, a house in a countryside location, or even simply a picture of some flowers in a field.
The challenge for the Year 2 pupils was to try and imagine what might be taking place outside of this picture. We wanted the children to add to the original image, and then use their own ideas to paint a much wider picture.
We asked each class member to try and identify some of the clues that they could perhaps see around them in the original image. These include the colours used, some of the shapes and any patterns that can be seen in the picture.
This was a really interesting exercise to see develop. We soon found that most of the final outcomes were all very different. We spoke in class about how important it is to use your own imagination when painting a unique picture.
