Year 1 welcomed some very special visitors into our school with our friends from the nearby Vauxhall City Farm paying the children a visit. Both Year 1 classes have recently started a new topic learning about life on the farm. This was a great opportunity to find out more about various animals from our friends at Vauxhall City Farm.
The children prepared for the visit by thinking first about the way in which we need to behave around animals. We don’t want to scare them, and so it was explained how to make the animals feel welcome in our school by gently stroking them and not making a loud noise.
Part of the Year 1 learning has also been about being able to identify different animals. We were spoilt for choice during the visit with goats, hens, ducks, sheep, rabbits and guinea pigs all arriving in our school playground.
Each class member was able to spend some time with the different animals. The adult friends from Vauxhall City Farm were able to explain about the type of food that each animal group likes to eat, as well as the ideal environment where they like to live.
Many thanks to the Vauxhall City Farm staff for giving up their time to visit the Year 1 pupils. We are happy to share some of the photos from the visit below.
