Year 5 have been learning about the Adventures of Odysseus as part of our history work based around the Ancient Greek civilisation. This is a story that has captured the imagination of the pupils. Plenty of creative writing has been inspired by some of the stories that we are reading together as a class.
One passage that the pupils have recently enjoyed reading involves a rallying cry to show the sailors on the journey some pity. The Year 5 pupils have used this as a starting point to write their own inspiring speeches.
We have talked about how a powerful speech needs to be able to command an audience with the choice of words. A strong point has to be made clearly. There needs to be a focus.
These speeches were then acted out by each class member. Encouragement was given to improve the dramatic delivery. You can listen a selection of these being read out in the recordings below.
