The Year 1 pupils at Michael Faraday School recently had a fantastic trip to the London Transport Museum. This was organised to help with the learning for our current class topic looking in detail about London buses.
The children were able to see at first hand a selection of historical London buses. These included the B-bus, the automative bus, Routemasters and a modern day bus similar to the ones that we see on our streets.
Both Year 1 classes also took part in a workshop whilst at the Museum. The challenge was set to work in small teams to help build a London bus. Each group was asked to identify the chassis, the wheels and the main body, and then build these into our designs.
This work has continued back in the classroom at Michael Faraday School. The children have been experimenting with stikklebrix to build their buses. As much working detail as possible has been added to the designs.
Elsewhere in Year 1 and the children have been taking a seasonal look at Bonfire Night. All Key Stage 1 children enjoyed an assembly that introduced some of the ideas and themes around this special occasion.
The Year 1 children have been learning how this is a time of year where we celebrate light during the dark winter months. Class conversations have also taken place about how we can be safe whilst watching a fireworks display.
Both classes have also used the fireworks theme to be creative during our Design and Technology sessions. Bethany’s Class have been using a variety of resources to create some firework collages. The children have enjoyed using the glitter to add a sparkly fireworks effect.
The children have been asked to think about the appearance of fireworks, and how we can then recreate this. You can see some examples in the picture gallery below.
Zoe’s class have been creating some models of fireworks. The children watched Zoe demonstrate how to make a model firework using coloured card, bright ribbons and coloured feathers. Each class member then worked independently to create their own model firework to take home.
