The Reception children have been developing their estimation skills as part of the learning activities for Maths Week at Michael Faraday School. The children have been learning how an estimation is a sensible guess.
The children were asked to estimate how many small stones a friend could place in a jar in a given time frame. This was also a good activity to help the children with their understanding of time. One member of each group was asked to keep track of the time using a stopwatch.
Once the time was up, the group then counted how many actual stones had been placed in the jar. We then compared this final count with the estimations that had been made. The children were then able to work out who had made the best estimation.
