All pupils from around Michael Faraday School have been fortunate to work with our friends from West End In Schools during the past week. This is an organisation that has the aims of exploring drama, music and dance skills themed around particular reading books.
Both Year 1 classes were able to work with Ellie during a recent session looking at Where the Wild Things Are. This is a book that most of the children are already familiar with. The West End in Schools session had the aim of exploring some of the characters in the story using music and movement.
This learning started with a school assembly. Ellie addressed all of the pupils to explain a little more about the project. The pupils then read Where the Wild Things Are once again in class, in preparation for the dance and drama to follow.
A brief warm-up started the session. The Year 1 children were asked to think about how Where the Wilds Things Are contains not only characters, but also of objects that we could use during our drama sessions.
Some words were asked by Ellie to describe some of the expressions of the characters. The children then thought about how they could incorporate these into their short performances.
Each stage of the plot was then worked through using music and movement. This was a highly creative session with all pupils asked to take on the many wonderful characters in Where the Wild Things Are.
All West End In Schools sessions at Michael Faraday finished with a short performance at the end. This was a wonderful workshop, superbly staged by our friend Ellie.
