The Year 6 students at Michael Faraday School had a very informative end of term trip to the Houses of Parliament. Our history learning for the spring term has been looking at the idea of democracy. We have held class discussions to explain why democracy is so important in our everyday lives.
The pupils prepared for the Parliament trip by looking at a number of resources. Online research was carried out by looking at the government’s website. The students were able to take a virtual tour of Westminster, as well as learn about some of the key locations.
Year 6 were thrilled to be able to see these at first hand when it was time for our grand Westminster trip. Both the House of Commons and the House of Lords were entered. We were also able to see grand areas such as the Queen’s Robing Room.
This learning has continued back at school. All class members are now writing a detailed account of their Westminster trip. The students have been asked to include some of the new literacy techniques that we have been introduced to this term as part of our written work.
