Year 3 recently had an amazing trip to the Museum of London. This was organised to fit in with our current class pre-history topic. This refers to the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
The centrepiece for our trip to the Museum was the Battersea Shield. Year 3 have been researching in class the historical importance of this artefact. The children were thrilled to be able to see it up close.
Our Museum trip inspired the class members to create their own Iron Age shields during art lessons. Class teacher Joanna asked each pupil to design their own shields using the knowledge that we learnt from the trip.
Each shield has to be symmetrical. A centrepiece was also needed for where the grip will go. Suitable colours were also selected to reflect the Iron Age period. You can find out a little more about the Year 3 art work in the video above.
