Leanne’s Year 6 students recently staged a wonderful school assembly themed around the life of William Shakespeare. Our presentation celebrated the 400th anniversary of the death of the Bard, as well as also being the birthday of Shakespeare.
The assembly started by looking at the present day. We explained how Barack Obama visited The Globe to show his appreciation for Shakespeare. The pupils also spoke about how parades took place elsewhere in Southwark to celebrate the famous playwright.
Year 6 then addressed the idea of the different type of plays that Shakespeare wrote. We broke down the main genres into comedy, tragedy and history. Some acting from the Year 6 students then took place. The assembly audience members were asked to guess the name of the play.
Finally the assembly came to a close with a reading of some Shakespeare poetry, plus a presentation of some of the Shakespeare themed artwork that the children have produced.
