Both Year 1 classes at Michael Faraday School recently opened up the highly successful Sculpture Gallery. We have been looking at sculptures as part of our regular art sessions. The children have been learning how to differentiate a 3D sculpture compared to a more traditional 2D piece of art.
The pupils then went on to research the sculpture work of some famous artists. These included Barbara Hepworth, Michelle Reader and Mark Quinn. This then became a practical piece of learning with sculptures created by each class member themed around some of the famous artists.
With so much artwork having been created, it was decided that it would be a great idea to open up the Year 1 Sculpture Gallery! Some careful planning went into this event. The children created all of the publicity with some posters and invitations.
We then welcomed friends from around Michael Faraday into our gallery for a guided tour. The school management team and parents and carers all came along. The children took great pride in explaining more about their work.
