The Year 6 students at Michael Faraday School have been learning about Islamic art as part of our RE learning. All term the pupils have been looking at Islam and some of the core beliefs. This has been a timely topic with Ramadan soon approaching.
Our study of Islamic art has seen how Muslims place tremendous importance on geometrical shapes in their artwork. We have been learning that this is what differentiates it from artwork associated with other major world religions.
Another key feature is the absence of people or animals. Instead geographical patterns using nature symbols are used. Some of the Year 6 pupils explain a little more about this learning in the video above.
