The Year 3 pupils at Michael Faraday School recently enjoyed a trip to the Tooting Gurdwara. Having already visited a Christian Church and a Buddhist Temple, the trip to Tooting was organised to gain a better understanding of Sikhism.
All girls and boys were asked first to wear a headscarf and to remove their shoes. This was to show respect to Sikhism and the Sikhs that worshipped in the Gurdwara.
We were lucky to have a special tour of the building. The high point was being able to see the Guru Granth Sahib – the holy book that is so special for Sikhs. Our guides very kindly then played a special song for the Year 3 pupils, before inviting us into the Langar for juice and biscuits.
Thank you letters to our friends at the Tooting Gurdwara have been written back in class. The Year 3 children were asked to include in their letters examples of what new knowledge they have learnt on their special day out.
