Solving the Year 2 Maths Code

The new Year 2 classes at Michael Faraday School have started work straight away on some maths learning for the autumn term. The children have completed a colour coded maths exercise as a refresher of our maths knowledge since the summer break.

Each number represented a specific value. An example might be that orange = 9. A super hero cartoon character then needed to coloured in. Each part of the body pointed to a particular sum. If the hair had a sum such as 5+4, then this must mean that the super hero has orange hair.

The Year 2 children have also enjoyed some early artwork creating a series of class birthday cards. Each pupil designed and created the card. These will now be used to help celebrate the special day whenever a class birthday takes place.

We will soon introduce the children to The Owl and the Pussy Cat – our first class reading book for the autumn term. Work will also start on our new history topic of Florence Nightingale.
