We are proud to announce that Michael Faraday School will be competing with a boys and girls football team throughout the first two terms of the new school year. This is the first time that we have coached a competitive girls football team.
Staff member Nick has very kindly taken on the coaching and management responsibilities for both football teams. Trials were held for boys and girls in Years 5 and 6 at the start of the term. It was great to see such a high turn out with 31 boys, and 24 girls keen to fill the squad places.
Nick was looking for a number of different criteria before selecting his final squads. Teamwork is key to how we coach football at Michael Faraday School. Nick wanted to make sure that all squad members are able to work together in order to win. Passing, shooting and dribbling skills were also considered.
Regular weekly training sessions will now take place for both teams. We have also entered the boys and girls team into a local Southwark schools league. Matches will take place each week.
Coach Nick is keen to also include the other trialists as part of his sessions. Friendly matches will be set up between the school teams and the other players in Year 5 and Year 6.
Good luck to both Michael Faraday teams!
