The Year 1 children at Michael Faraday School have started work on reading chapter books. This is quite a change for some of the pupils as they start to read texts that have a little more structure to them. Our first reading book has been Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine.
The children have also been taking library books home, as well as bringing in from home some of our favourite reading books. This helps class teachers Kelly and Zoe to understand a little more about the reading interests of the children.
Some very thoughtful written work has been produced, based around the idea of All About Me.
Tariqa in Kelly’s Class commented:
“I love stories because they make my dreams comes true.”
Elsewhere in Year 1 and the children have been focussing on their balancing skills during recent PE sessions. Each session starts with a brief warm up. The children have been learning how this helps to get our heart rate increased ahead of the gymnastics to follow.
A recent PE session saw a couple of work stations set up in the school gym. These allowed the children to think about the different ways in which they could move across the apparatus. You can see some of these ideas being shared in the video below.
