Year 4 have started work on a piece of artwork which aims to highlight some stunning African sunset scenes. The pupils prepared for their work by having a class discussion about the difference between a landscape and a portrait picture. It was decided that landscape would be the best design for this piece of work.
A number of African sunset images were then looked at online. These helped to inspire the Year 4 pupil with their own paintings. Each class member then partnered up with a friend. We shared ideas about what we would like to be included in our final paintings.
Our artwork then started with a series of sketches. Class teacher Sophie explained how we need to focus first on the outline of our landscape, with colour being added later.
The Year 4 pupils were also asked to experiment with colour mixing. The sunsets required a powerful contrast of colours. The children worked with the primary colour set to create a suitable colour scheme.
