Reception Yoga and Pirates!

The Reception children at Michael Faraday School are continuing to benefit from our regular yoga sessions with our specialist teacher Serena. This is an activity that usually involves a story.

Serena works with the children to tell the story, and then is able to add in suitable simple yoga stretches to match what is taking place in the story.

A recent yoga session was themed for Halloween around the story Room on the Broom. The Reception children enjoyed stretching into shapes similar to the witch in the story, or the different ingredients being added into a cooking pot.

Elsewhere in the Michael Faraday Reception and pirates have been a particular favourite theme. We have started work with the pupils on their new class topic looking at pirates stories.

Some of the children have started to think of a suitable pirate name that they could use. We have also been designing and making some pirate hats. Treasure maps have been painted during art sessions.

This pirate learning will continue after the short half term holiday. Both Reception classes will enjoy a trip out on the Golden Hinde to see what life is like on a traditional old ship.
