Zoe’s Year 1 class recently went on a trip to a local art gallery. The children were very excited ahead of their visit to the gallery space at the nearby Chaplin Centre. This is located on the Aylesbury, and is a key part of our local community.
We made the short walk to the Chaplin Centre, and then found an amazing selection of collages on display. These had been created by other young members in the community. The theme for the exhibition was: Sticking Together in SE17.
The gallery staff invited the Year 1 children to experiment with their own collages. Many different resources were made available. The children wasted no time in cutting out photos and adding in brightly coloured paper to make a unique image.
Zoe’s class worked in pairs on their designs. It was great to see all of the children sharing the resources and being supportive of one another.
The trip to the Chaplin Centre was the first step in hopefully what will be a productive partnership between the gallery and Michael Faraday School. It would be wonderful if children throughout the school were able to learn from the experience and resources that are available within our local community.
Many thanks to Julia and her team for being so helpful during our trip. We are proud to present a selection of photos from the trip below.
