The Year 5 students at Michael Faraday School have been introduced to their new class topic of water at the start of the spring term. This is vast subject matter that will look at both local and global issues involving water and having access to it.
Our early research has involved the pupils looking at the many different physical water features that can be found around the UK. We have seen how these include seas, rivers, bays, channels and firths.
Each class member has completed a map of the UK showing some of the main bodies of water. An atlas grid based system has also been used. Each feature has been given a unique grid reference so that we can locate it.
The Year 5 water topic will develop over the coming weeks to look at global issues involving water. We will be comparing our own access to clean water with the experience of other cultures living in more extreme conditions.
