The Reception children have been enjoying their first music lessons since the break. Music teacher Nora has been helping the children to understand how rhythm and pulse are important.
A recent session started with a vocal warm up. The children were asked to sing some of their favourite songs from previous sessions.
A selection of instruments were then introduced. The children used the clave sticks to repeat a rhythm that was led by Nora. The maracas helped to focus on the pulse of the music, as well as playing quietly and loudly. Chime bars were played to help the children explore different pitches.
The session ended with some movement. The children were asked to listen carefully to Yellow Submarine. We then followed some instructions and marched around the music studio. Particular attention was paid to the pulse and the rhythm in the song.
