Both Year 5 classes have been preparing for the Southwark Splash performance that takes place on 3 July at the Royal Festival Hall.
Joanna’s Class have been receiving professional singing tuition from our Splash friends Ross and Emily. Tersia’s Class have started work on the dance moves that they will be performing on stage.
How High the Moon is an original production that tells the story of rivalry between the sun and the moon. The music features some new songs that need plenty of energy. Ross and Emily have been helping the pupils to deliver an enthusiastic performance.
Rehearsal for most of the songs are now complete. A recent session saw the children run through the final grand finale number. The singers have also been learning the many movements and hand gestures. Southwark Splash has very kindly produced some youtube videos to help with this.
Elsewhere in Year 5 and the pupils have continued to be fascinated by the African topic of Benin. This is a city in Nigeria that has great historical and cultural significance. The children were inspired by our Horniman Museum trip to create their own Benin mosaics. We have been learning about the lost wax process that led to the original mosaics being created.
