Reception Pirates and the Chinese New Year

The Reception children are coming towards the end of their pirates topic. We treated both classes to a trip to the Golden Hinde ship that is in a wet dock by the Thames. This is a traditional sailing ship that looks like the pirate ships that we have been learning about.

Our visit included a tour of the ship by a sailor dressed as a friendly pirate. We heard about the life of Sir Francis Drake, as well as having the chance to fire a pretend canon!

Back in the classroom and we have been looking forward to celebrating the Chinese New Year. The Reception children have seen how this is a very colourful occasion. We have made some paper lanterns and a large dragon costume. A special parade took place to celebrate the New Year.

We are all looking forward to Science Week later next month. The Reception children will be reading the book Ada Twist, Scientist.
