Year 5 have been exploring W.H. Auden’s Night Mail poem. This tells the story of the train that travels from London to Aberdeen carrying the post.
The pupils have been watching the 1935 black and white film that first featured the Auden poetry. They have been fascinated by this special train that carried half a million items of post.
Our focus in Year 5 has to be listen out to the use of rhyme by Auden. We have also used the poem as part of our geography learning. The students have mapped out the route that the train takes.
