The Year 1 children celebrated UK Day on 21 June with activities based around different countries. Kelly’s Class chose Northern Ireland. Each class member made a colourful shamrock card. A special Irish greeting was written inside.
The children also made some Gaelic bookmarks. These use a traditional Gaelic pattern that was coloured in. We also learnt how to count from 1 to 10 in Gaelic.
Emma’s Year 1 class celebrated Scotland for UK Day. Our work was based around the myth of the Loch Ness Monster. We watched a short video to learn about the history. We also did some monster spotting by watching some scenes from around Loch Ness.
Each class member then designed their own Loch Ness Monster. We used salt dough to create these. Once they have dried out then we will add in some bright colours. We have also been thinking of different describing words for the Monster.
We also welcomed friends from Year 2 into our sessions so that we all had the opportunity to experience all four UK countries.
