Year 4 have looked at some of the shield formations used by the Roman soldiers. We have found that one of the most famous is the tortoise. This uses the shields to put in place an armour style protection.
Year 4 have been keen to put this theory to the test. The pupils have designed their own Roman shields. These have been painted in ‘blood colours’ – a recognisable feature for the Roman soldiers.
Once they are complete then we will attempt to form a tortoise formation. The pupils have been seeing how they need to work together as a team to make this happen.
