Into the Forest Acrostic Poems in Year 3

The Year 3 pupils have started to read Into the Forest by Anthony Browne. This is a mysterious and magical book that has plenty of powerful imagery with the pictures.

Our work started with the pupils looking in detail at the front cover, and then reading the first page only. This included a picture that posed many questions. We held a class discussion to think about how the plot might develop.

These thoughts were then put to use with an acrostic poem. Year 3 were asked to write a thoughtful piece of poetry, with the word MIDNIGHT spelling out the first letter for each new line.

Class teachers Rafiat and Kate asked the pupils to include adjectives and interesting vocabulary. The school dictionaries and thesaurus were used.

Self-editing then took place. The pupils needed to be self-critical of their work to make them even better. Attention was paid to the correct spelling of the new words that we used.

You can listen to a selection of the Into the Forest acrostic poems being read out below.
