Phonics Learning in the Michael Faraday Reception

The Reception children are making great progress with their morning phonics learning. We start our sessions each day with the tricky word song. There is plenty of singing. Don’t let the phonics trick you!

Phonics cards are then shown by class teachers Ayshah and Emily. The children are currently learning the ar sound. Example words include star, car and shark.

Whiteboard writing exercises then take place. The children looked at the sentence:

I got a card at my party in the park.

They were asked to underline each word that had the ar sound.

Our final sentence was:

The jam is in the jar.

The children wrote this independently on their whiteboards.

Spending ten minutes each evening reading with the children helps to improve their phonics. Please do speak with the Reception teachers if you need any phonics tips.
