Y1 Maths Learning, London Research and Library Visits

The Year 1 children are playing ropes and ladders to help them with their maths learning. We started our session by discussing the rules of the game.

Each class member then partnered up with a friend. We used our maths knowledge of counting on and subtracting to move our counters around the board.

Elsewhere in Year 1 and that pupils are carrying out some research all about London. The key learning aim was to be able to retrieve information from books and leaflets.

The children brainstormed some ideas involving their existing London knowledge. They then set about planning a piece of writing. This will include facts about London landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben and London Bridge.

The children are also continuing with their weekly visits to the Michael Faraday library. They are given a free choice about which books to stamp out. A professional library service is in operation. The children have a week to read their book, or the option to renew.
