Year 2 are enjoying their weekly music sessions with Noura. One of the key learning aims is to understand how different rhythms work.
Our warmup exercise introduced a simple song involving tea and coffee. The children tapped out the rhythms as they moved around the music studio.
Noura then introduced the children to the Frère Jacques rhyme. Some instruments were made available. The children were able to play chime bars, a wooden a-go-go, the boom whacker, the tambourine and some bells.
We continued with the Frère Jacques song. Three different groups started at different times. The children were able to play the song in the round.
We ended our session by watching a short video showing African rhythms. This demonstrated how every day objects can be used to create rhythm and patterns. The children joined in on their instruments.
