Our science learning in Year 2 is looking at everyday materials that we can see out and about. One of our learning intentions is to compare materials we can find in our classroom with some of the items outside in the playground.
This work involved the children heading outside on a material hunt in the Michael Faraday playground. The challenge was to identify and group together materials. We recorded our observations in our science books.
Some of our findings included identifying that the learning pod is made out of wood. We could see how our main school structure is metal, glass and concrete. The slide in the playground is metallic.
The next stage of this learning will be to compare the outdoor findings with what we can see inside. We will also consider why some everyday objects are made out of certain materials.
