Beegu, Maths, Phonics and Minibeasts in Reception

Beegu is our main shared reading book in the Michael Faraday Reception. This tells the story of a visitor from a different planet who feels a little lonely when she visits Earth.

We have used the storyline to discuss how it might feel to be different. We have made comparisons about how we are all different and how we can get along. We have also spoken about how we can take care of Beegu.

We are using zig zag books to help recall the story. The children have sorted some pictures and sequenced these in the correct order.

Maths learning in the Reception has involved the children exploring weight and capacity. We have looked at terms such as full, half full and empty. Some practical learning has taken place with the children comparing different water capacities.

We will soon move onto a minibeast topic. The children are enjoying looking for minibeasts around our Michael Faraday woodland play area. We will be talking about how we need to care for the minibeasts and always place them back safely where we first found them.
