Home Learning
Why do we give home learning?
At Michael Faraday, we provide children with ample, high-quality learning opportunities during the school day. When they go home, we encourage them to stay active—playing in the garden or park, participating in sports, and socialising with friends (and hopefully not through video games!). However, it's also important for children to develop good time management skills and extend their learning beyond the school gates.
What home learning do we give?
All the children are expected to read at home every day. The staff will check in regularly to see if the children are reading at home. All the children have reading records.
We have a subscription for eBook through Collins. Please see attached parent guide for the Collins Hub eBook library.
In addition to daily reading, the home learning expectations are:
Reception:
- Learning phonic sounds
- 'Learn its' (Maths)
Key Stage 1:
- Learning phonic sounds and/or weekly spelling
- Big Maths online
Key Stage 2:
- Weekly spelling - children have spelling books to record their weekly spellings
- Big Maths online
- Timestable Rockstars
At Michael Faraday, we use the Big Maths approach. To support their learning at home, children can practise their Big Maths, SAFE, and Learn It challenges. Each child should have their unique username and password for access. If there are any issues, please speak to the class teacher for assistance. Click the link below to log in and get started!
The timetables children should know:
Year 2: x10, x5, x2
Year 3: x3, x4, x8
Year 4: x6, x11, x12 are the new timetables to learn in Year 4 and by the end of the year they need to know all their timetables for the multiplication check.
Year 5 and Year 6: All the timestables
Year 6
In addition to home learning, closer to SATS in May, the teachers will also give the children some practice booklets to complete.
ANTON APP
For families seeking additional extension activities, we recommend the ANTON app. This free, interactive tool provides fun and engaging opportunities to practice a wide range of subjects, including Maths and English. It's a great way to build on your child's learning in an enjoyable and productive way.
