Curriculum
At Michael Faraday Primary School, our curriculum is designed to foster global citizenship. We believe that every child deserves an education that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate the opportunities and challenges of the future, empowering them to create the world they wish to live in.
Vision and Intent
Our curriculum reflects our vision for our children: to help them make sense of the world and feel a sense of belonging. We aim to instil in them an appreciation and respect for the diverse world they inhabit, motivating them to contribute positively and leave a lasting legacy.
Windows and Mirrors
To help children understand their identity and their place in the world, our curriculum functions as both windows and mirrors. Mirrors allow them to see themselves reflected, while windows provide views into the lives and stories of people different from themselves.
Future-Focused Learning
What we teach today shapes the choices our children will make in the future. We aim to cultivate independent decision-makers who understand how to give back to their community. Emphasising sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyles, we teach children to take responsibility for their actions and strive for a healthier planet.
Curiosity and Resilience
We encourage our children to be curious, resilient learners with a growth mindset. Our goal is to foster a willingness to try new things, learn from mistakes, and reflect on their learning journey.
Memorable Learning Experiences
To broaden their experiences and promote independence, confidence, and ambition, we enrich learning through a variety of opportunities, such as trips and visitors. Leveraging our proximity to London's rich cultural heritage, we celebrate the diverse backgrounds, languages, and traditions within our community.
Knowledge-Rich Curriculum
Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that knowledge is valuable in its own right. It serves as a foundation for children to shape their school experiences, relationships and future world. We strive to deepen their understanding and build knowledge over time, recognising that the more children know, the easier it becomes for them to learn more.
Food for thought:
- A good curriculum should lead to meaningful outcomes. However, excellent exam results do not always indicate that a child has received a rich and comprehensive education. Tests are by-products of learning, not the ultimate goal.
- Our focus should be on the children, not just the content. Effective teaching involves being attentive to the conditions and needs of the learners.
- To help children understand how life works, we need to teach them that their present choices have future consequences. This prepares them to make informed decisions and understand the impact of their actions.
